Technologies & Solutions Transforming Ash Into a Valuable Resource
Smart intervention prevents ash disposal and unlocks its full potential as a usable material.
Our technologies, strategies, and techniques to beneficiate coal ash are continually advancing to increase recycling and reduce our environmental footprint. With over 25 years of experience operating beneficiation facilities, we are uniquely qualified to offer a wide range of solutions for removing and recycling coal ash for beneficial use.
The Role of Beneficiation Technologies & Solutions
Any beneficiation program will need different processing steps to beneficiate material for concrete use. These steps will include screening to remove trash and non-coal ash debris, drying, classifying, grinding, and possibly carbon treatment to ensure compliance with market acceptance and relevant specifications.
Drying
Moisture < 3%
Material is de-watered in the landfill or basin to less than 25% moisture. Final drying can be accomplished with flash dryers, rotary dryers, or fluid bed dryers, among others
Classifying
Fineness Specifications
34% Retained on #325
10% Retained on #100
Separates any co-mingled bottom ash, slag, etc., from fly ash
Grinding
Fineness Specifications
34% Retained on #325
10% Retained on #100
Oversized material can be ground to meet fineness specifications
Carbon Treatment
1% < LOI < 6%
Thermal Beneficiation allows for the recovery of waste heat to be used for the drying step
The STAR Process
Self-Sustaining and Exothermic
The STAR Process is digitally monitored and controlled at each STAR Facility. Our proprietary thermal beneficiation process is
self-sustaining and exothermic, meaning no fuel is required for continuous treatment, including any drying if needed.
